Beginnings

Gujarati Samaj Chicago was established in 1976. There were only a few members at that time and now we have grown to over 600 members.

Mission

Gujarati Samaj Chicago is a non-profit organization serving the Chicagoland area. Our mission is to champion the Gujarati people to grow personally, professionally, emotionally, and spiritually by using compassion, unique perspective, and belief in Gujaratis’ inherent goodness, integrity, and enormous potential to help each other. We provide a community for those who find joy in celebrating the Gujarati culture and Gujarati people.

Vision

The Gujarati Samaj Chicago vision is to help the Gujarati community to prosper in life while still maintaining a positive focus on serving the community, family, and other organizations.

Values

Respect, Truth, Collaboration, Fun, Family Values, Integrity, and Empowerment.

Activities

GSC hosts an array of activities and programs throughout the year including Bowling, Picnic, Mix & Mingle, Navratri, and Diwali/Year-end gala. All the activities of the organization are administered and organized by energetic/enthusiastic volunteers from the community. To formalize the workings of this organization, a constitution was presented to the general body. President and trustee board members are elected for a two-year term.

Over the years the Gujarati Mandal has attracted outstanding scholars, writers, teachers, and educators to speak before interested community members. The organization has participated in several Raas and Garba competitions across the US and won significant accolades. The Gujarati Samaj of Chicago also hosted the regional Raas and Garba competition, organized by FOGANA (Federation of Gujarati Associations of North America).
